History of the X204

Launched in 2008, the GLK-Class pioneered the compact luxury SUV segment that would dominate global automotive markets.

Development began in 2005 as Mercedes-Benz recognized the opportunity in the sub-ML luxury SUV market. The X204 platform was derived from the C-Class chassis, enabling efficient production while maintaining premium quality and performance standards.

The GLK underwent a significant facelift in 2012, receiving updated styling, improved infotainment systems, and enhanced safety features. This refresh extended its competitiveness against rivals like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

Production ended in 2015 as Mercedes prepared the next-generation GLC-Class. The GLK's seven-year production run saw consistent global sales success, establishing Mercedes-Benz as a leader in the compact luxury SUV category.
